Undercover in a School of Horror

For whatever reason, mysteries and school life go hand-in-hand. All of the natural drama that occurs in school just offers itself to the subterfuge that needs to occur to have a good mystery. There is a natural tension that can be exploited. That being said, it could be simple or an overall rollercoaster, which is what we saw with Arisa by Natsumi Ando.

I think it was until the very end that I did not know what was going on in this story as we follow Tsubasa, who is trying to figure out why her sister, Arisa, tried to commit suicide. The only information she has is that it has something to do with her school, so Tsubasa goes undercover as Arisa. Going in, I thought this was going to be very shoujo-y, given the author, but I would say that anyone who loves manga and mystery will enjoy this. Yes, there are shoujo elements, but they are overwhelmed by the want to get the full story.

This manga talks about self-harm as these are thoughts several characters have had or actually carried out. Take care if you decided to read this.

Strangest Vampire Structure Ever

As I am writing this, I finished reading Vampire Knight not even ten minutes ago. I’m still trying to figure out the world’s structures because it was strange. I enjoyed the story, don’t get me wrong, even though somethings were spoiled for me ahead of time (I promise not to spoil anything here, guys.) It’s just a weird story, and I completely understand why I was told to read and not to read it at the same time. I had mixed reviews while reading it. Half-way through, I put it down, because it made my head hurt. It took me a couple of months to pick back up. At the very end, when the action started to really kick in, I couldn’t put it down. In my personal opinion, there was way too much filler in the middle trying to transition from one arc to another. It was just really awkwardly executed. Maybe the anime executed this differently and better. I’d heard better views from the anime, even though the story is weird.

High School of Cute Couples

This the super duper adorable anime Tsuredure Children, you meet – I want to say – eight different couples with completely different stories. At first, I thought it would be annoying switching between at least four relationships every single episode, but all it did was make me want to watch more. When you leave a couple, you are left on a cliff-hanger or with a major case of the feels. Every single relationship is different, which also makes it really interesting. If it was the same relationship, every single time, it would not be as cute as it is. I feel that this show did everything right. This show is the right amount of cute and angst from all the feels. This show is for every lover of romance ever.

Raising a Doll

In the cute little anime known as Gugure! Kokkuri-san, the fox god known as Kokkuri-san helps raise Kohina, a girl who believes that she is a doll. It has an amazing cast of characters that are hilarious and heart-warming at the same time. With a supernatural and slightly creepy twist of a family drama, this family has to get through day-to-day without accidentally ending the world. Maybe not end the world but definitely trying to kill each other. They kinda fail at that one quite a bit. It’s a cute little show for a shounen (It makes sense as to why it’s a shounen after a bit.). Have a mentioned how amazing the characters are by the way. Their interactions with each other are the best.

Happiness Meets Poverty

In the anime Binbougami Ga! or Good Luck Girl, you meet two adversaries. One, a girl who has an overwhelming amount of happiness or good luck energy who also slowly sucks this away from other people, and the other, a poverty god who is just trying to right the scales. It is a funny show with fun characters that everyone would fall in love with. This show is classified as a shounen, so there are some really perverted male characters, but you just have to run with it. The characters are memorable, and watching them grow is truly remarkable. I would suggest this to anyone who whats a good laugh. It is fast-paced action and hardly any filler. I honestly want the second season that they were hinting at the end.

The Wall Between Us

As the new addition in the genre of “cute girls doing not so cute girl things,” there is Princess Principal. It’s a historical-ish drama taking place in what could be an alternate Berlin Wall situation taking place in England. The country has been torn apart into a monarchy and a commonwealth. There to make sure the country as a whole does not get overrun by those that what to ruin in are a group of young spies. They are all amazing, well written, and have great chemistry with one another. The story, for the most part, is told out of order, but one can get the gist and see how much they care about one another. It’s a great show that needs a sequel. I NEED to know what happens next. There was such a huge cliffhanger.

Miraculous

Today, I will be talking about the amazing television show Miraculous: The Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. Now, I now this is technically a children’s show, but I loved it. It has all of the tropes of cheesy 90s television that I love. Also, one of the producers of the show is the same producer of Sailor Moon, which probably explains why I love the show so much. For future reference, Sailor Moon is one of my favorite shows. I know it’s super mainstream, but I just adore it. But one again, this show is mir … ama … spectacular. I would reuse the word, but’s that super cheesy. Even more cheesy is the way I heard about this show. The dining hall for whatever reason had a children’s network on, and I would watch, without sound nonetheless, I was just sucked in. That night, I started binge-watching. I’m not even ashamed. It was so good. I honestly cannot wait for the next season to come out. I might just have to watch it in the original French. By the way, I can’t speak French. I shouldn’t be that hard though. I also want my two-person love square again. It’s too funny.

Not at All What I Was Expecting

Recently, I watched the Netflix original movie Death Note, and it was not at all what I was expecting. It was a good movie. I won’t say that it is the best movie I have ever seen but I had some really good elements. I loved the cinematography and there wasn’t a lot of spoken exposition like I was expecting. I know that a lot of people hated it. I read the reviews myself. They were full of hate but had no real reasoning for it. The people who actually had reasons for disliking it, other than the fact that it wasn’t word for word out of the manga or anime, had reasoning that I could understand why they felt that way. To me, a live action is not supposed to be exactly like what it is in the source material, especially when it is crossing cultural borders. While watching it, I was completely in the moment and for the most part forgot all about the manga (I haven’t watched the anime yet. Don’t hate me.). If you haven’t watched or read the original Death Note or if you completely separate yourself from the original, you would consider it a decent movie. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. Ryuk and L were definitely the best part of the film no matter what way you see it. Those two made the film.

10 September 2017

I know that I haven’t done this for a while, but I felt that it is time to go on another rant. I know that the date is off, but for now on I’m going to write these rants before the day they go up. Just go with it.

This rant, in particular, is about school. I’ve been having a hard time dealing with things recently and need to get these things off my chest.

Firstly, I have a “group” project. Of course, the word group is used very loosely. As of this morning, I have done approximately 20 percent of the project. This project that as of now that I have done practically all of the work on is the creation of an interactive story game. My group has decided to do a memorization type of game where you have to explore one scene to find the clues on how to escape later on.

As of now, I have written and programmed everything that we have as of now. This is a group of four people, and I have kinda-sorta only given one of my group members a pass. He is currently helping some of his friends who are evacuating from the hurricane. But other than that no. Pretty much all of them agree that they are not going to be putting in any work on the weekends, which is ultimately the worse thing ever, especially when they talk about meeting during times when I cannot. Another one of my group members is never in the group chat. It’s through Google Hangout so everyone can see that last message that someone has seen. Lastly, I have a group member that literally says “Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it,” which is code for “I plan on putting absolutely no initiative into this project and plan on skating by by doing absolutely nothing.” At this point, I don’t have any hope for him.

Outside of that, I have no clue how I’m supposed to get everything done. I have so much to do and so little time. I do as much as possible without pulling my hair out, but I do need time to decompress. I plan on getting hardly any sleep for the rest of the semester. I’m going to need lots of sugar.

WARNING: Only Watch in English

Seriously, guys, you have been partially warned in advance. This anime so far is on my list of four animes where the English dub is acceptable to watch for purposes other than making fun of it. But in this case, the original anime is so bad, the original producers told the people who dubbed it to do whatever they wanted. If you haven’t guessed it already, I’m talking about Ghost Stories.

And remember how I said you had been partially warned, well I haven’t told you about what it actually said. Let’s just say, it’s really, really crude. As in, if you get offended at all, this really isn’t for you. Now, I think you have been fully warned.

Strangely enough, once you get past what I was talking about in the previous paragraph, it’s … okay. Just at first the jokes are hilarious, mainly because you aren’t expecting them. But when you hear the jokes, over and over again, because you’re gonna binge watch anime (let’s just face it), it starts to drag on. You get tired of hearing the same jokes being brought up five times an episode, so my suggestion, if you going to watch this, is to not binge watch even though everything in you is telling you to. Just don’t do it. You might enjoy it better. Also, if you get offended in any way, I repeat, DO NOT WATCH THIS. This is your final warning; do not blame me if you continue on. But if you are gonna watch, be prepared for a few jokes that are going to make you pause the episode, so that you hear what’s going on over your loud laughter to only be repeated a couple of times.
