Studio Ghibli Made a Video Game

Like the title says, the Studio Ghibli’s beautiful style haws been added to a video game, or something that you could call a video game. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I would definitely say that it is not for everyone. Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds boasts itself as a MMORPG featuring some classic classes such as witches, rangers, and swordsmen. I, of course, chose a witch to “play” as.

To be honest, this is more a beautiful cinematic that you enjoy to watch with a side of research management. I large part of the game is managing your inventory and leveling up your weapons and pets. I really am enjoying the story beats, but if you are looking for a hardcore MMORPG in which every single button press effects the action, this is not the game for you. If you want something mindless to do and just want the pretty colors go by like I do, you might really enjoy it. There are some customizations options, but all the classes are gender- and race-locked, so be prepared for everyone looking more or less the same.

The game is available in the Apple and Google Play store. There also seems to be a pretty active PC port if that is your cup of tea. I am currently a level sixty witch, and even though at times it’s a grind, I haven’t felt the need to buy experience boosts are anything, so I do think it is pretty balanced in a way. Of course that fact that you can buy stuff is thrown in your face every couple of levels, it’s not necessary to continue.

Phone Snooping

It has been challenging to find a mobile game genuinely worth talking about recently, but I believe I have found one. I have been obsessed with this game and completed lots of the levels within hours of downloading. If you love puzzle games, I am confident that you will also love this one. Here, I bring you Peek a Phone.

Snooping through a person’s phone and discovering their secrets seems to be a fun game concept. This time, it is done through short levels that you can get through in a short amount of time. Using your smarts and google, you can solve all the mysteries trapped within each person’s phone. Do know that you don’t have to actually email anyone because I thought that for a while, and it was just because I clicked the wrong button. Don’t be like me. Game available for Android and iOS (My friend told me about this game, and she has an iPhone, I just can’t find the link. Any help would be great).

Manifesting Destiny

One of the many idle games that I have on my phone is a game known as Idle Frontier. The first thing that attracted me to the game was cute illustrations. It looks a bit like the types of books that I would have read when I was younger. Idle games are kind of my thing. I like being able to just to due a couple of things for a bit of time, come back a couple of hours later, and be further in the game. It’s the standard idle game with achievements that gives you extra bonuses. My one problem with this game is that there is this loot box system. You have a random chance of getting manager cards of which is needed to automate everything for when you are away. As you get farther in the game, you have to level up these managers, which is by random chance. I’m okay with putting in the work first hand, but later on, I just want to let the game work itself. Overall, the game is okay. I think that if you enjoy constantly putting in the work overtime, go ahead. I’m pretty neutral overall.

Rescue all the Puppies

One of my favorite genre of mobile games is something that I like to call Soap Opera Games. These are simple games, mostly pressing different things on the screen, and for some reason, they have the most outrageous plot lines, a complete contrast to the gameplay. This time, I played the wonderful Dr. Cares: Pet Rescue 911. I originally wanted to play this game because of all the cute puppies, I will admit, but then a bought the rest of the game because of the storyline that started to unfold. I didn’t think that a romantic subplot was going to reveal itself, but there it was. I was playing this because of the love of animals, but then cute love interests revealed. It was unexpected, but I was not disappointed. I’ll admit, I was rooting for another love interest over another, but I’ll leave that for you to decide.

It’s Now Bird Season

In the epic sequel to Alto’s Adventure, there is Alto’s Odyssey. I’ll be honest, I was a bit skeptical of this game. On the surface, it seems like a reskin of the first game. After playing for a bit more, I noticed that they added some new mechanics. They’ve added new ways to gain points by doing tricks. You can ski along walls and jump up and down on balloons. Also, you’re not just skiing in one location. There are three locations that you are able to ski through. It adds more variety which is very much appreciated. Because of that, there is the urge to continue going to get to the next location. Another thing they changed was that instead of having llamas running along with you, there are colorful birds flying with you. Also, you not being chased by a creepy person in this one. It’s a lemur that you woke up from your skiing. If you enjoyed the first game, you are sure to love this one. You have to get a couple of levels into the game before the new mechanics kick in, so hang in there for a bit.

One Shot Assassin

I never expected an endless runner styled shooting game, but there is Mr. Gun. The game is minimalistic in plot and design, but I think that’s the beauty of it. You play as an assassin that is trying to take down a bunch of bosses on your bucket list, but first, you have to get through their minions. You are going upstairs, shooting your way up to the boss. The stairs are randomly generated along with the minions, so there is no telling how tall or short the starts are going to be, and you only have one shot or your dead. What I like about this game that is not present in most endless runners is that there is a leveling system. Instead of facing a bunch of minions and facing the exact same bosses every single time, you begin at the first level you haven’t defeated a boss on. There is still the ability to try and get a higher score every single time that you play, but it doesn’t come with the feeling that after you die, you have to start over at the very beginning. Also, there is the ability to change guns, once you own them. Each one has slightly different abilities. There are also different outfits. After I got the Hitman 47 skin, I didn’t bother looking at the others, so that’s something you for you to discover.

Making Bigger Dragons

In the past couple of months, I would say, I’ve been obsessed with merging games. Merge these fruits. Merge these cars. Merge these houses. Right now, my obsession is over Merge Dragons. Its premise is pretty much the same as every other merge game, but it adds another element to the formula. I will admit, I first downloaded that game because I kept getting the ads and wanted to see what all hype was about. I was instantly hooked. In the background of all the merging, there is a story that unfolds. You are not just making bigger dragons, although that is a small part of it. You are trying to heal a land that was once overrun with zomblins. So, alongside merging, there is a small bit of an action mechanic and it is very strategy based. Sometimes making a certain merge is not in your best interest. Now, I will admit that this game has all of the hallmarks of a pay to play system. There are lots of elements that go by a lot quicker if you were to pay for them. I haven’t purchased anything so I can say that you will have fun with is game without making microtransactions. I play for a little bit, do something else for a couple of hours, and then get right make into the game exactly where I left off practically.

Rebuilding the Island

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are sure to have noticed the influx of games that revolve around complete puzzles in order to rebuild something, be it mansions or gardens. A new addition to this genre of gaming is Lost Island: Blast Adventure. I like this game because instead of a match three, is a … blow up blocks of a color. It’s the same premise, but different. From what I have seen in the game, there are lots of interesting characters and a mystery to unravel through the power of archeology. I would check it out if you can so you can have a seal. Have I told you that you get a seal friend?

My Little Vet Clinic

One of the many recent games that I have downloaded on my phone has Pet Rescue. What can I say about it other than it is super adorable? The animal and character designs are well done. The simple animations are absolutely perfect. The premise of the game is that you are running a vet clinic with different services that you can upgrade your care for animals and help out missing animals. The first part is more time management and the second is waiting for a time to expire. There are also three worlds currently available as I am writing this. I have only played in two of them. The different worlds have different services you can offer and different animals to rescue. My one complaint is that the vets don’t get different outfits for the different world. I know that it is a silly complaint, but I just think it would be really cute.

Miraculous Run

A new app game that is taking my heart way is Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir – The Official Game. The set up is very much like Temple Run, but it isn’t a endless runner, and that is a possitive. Instead of endlessly trying to best your score every single time, there are goals to accomplish in every single time. Completing the goal of every single level with a three-star rating. For me, that is more of an incentive than beating a high score each and every run. The locations change up a tiny bit and you get to see different versions of your favorite characters. I also love how based on who you are playing as, the movements change to better reflect the characters. That is my favorite part of the animation. There are also scenes from the show that is a tribute to the source material. Truely brilliant and adorable.
