Making Bigger Dragons

In the past couple of months, I would say, I’ve been obsessed with merging games. Merge these fruits. Merge these cars. Merge these houses. Right now, my obsession is over Merge Dragons. Its premise is pretty much the same as every other merge game, but it adds another element to the formula. I will admit, I first downloaded that game because I kept getting the ads and wanted to see what all hype was about. I was instantly hooked. In the background of all the merging, there is a story that unfolds. You are not just making bigger dragons, although that is a small part of it. You are trying to heal a land that was once overrun with zomblins. So, alongside merging, there is a small bit of an action mechanic and it is very strategy based. Sometimes making a certain merge is not in your best interest. Now, I will admit that this game has all of the hallmarks of a pay to play system. There are lots of elements that go by a lot quicker if you were to pay for them. I haven’t purchased anything so I can say that you will have fun with is game without making microtransactions. I play for a little bit, do something else for a couple of hours, and then get right make into the game exactly where I left off practically.

Making a Dream Out of a Nightmare

For no reason what-so-ever, I completed the entirety of Kitchen Nightmares, the US version before you ask. I don’t know what it is, but Gordon Ramsay yelling at people makes me feel better. I’m sure that I would break down crying if he were to do that to me, but degrees of separation and what not. I just love the way he turns owners around. I just feel bad that some restaurants were closed down after he came to help either because of the owner’s stubbornness or bank came after them. I was also watching the show on Hulu, so when I went to the comments, there was one faithful person who would inform you if the restaurant was closed. I don’t know why I found it funny, but I was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t see their comments. I don’t think I would ever binge this show again; there’s just not anything else one can really get from it, especially since I’m not planning on opening my own restaurant someday. I just happy that I can say that I saw all of Kitchen Nightmares. I might actually check out a couple of Ramsay’s other shows and hope that I get the same pleasure out of it.

Werewolves and Humans

In a world where werewolves and humans can live in harmony, everything isn’t as great as it could be. In Days of Hana, you are introduced to the human Hana and the werewolf Haru. They have been best friends since they were children. In this society, werewolves are seen as pets to most human families. After a werewolf attacks another human after their human was attacked, werewolves are not required to go to school alongside their humans. This is when the trouble truly starts, especially when Haru realizes that the feelings that he has for Haru aren’t exactly kosher. This webcomic is one of the cutest that I’ve read. Every chapter sends me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I didn’t know this would make me feel. The second season of this webcomic just started so it would be a great time to get on the feel-train with me.

(not so) Family of Music

As a lover of Disney-Pixar, I am honestly horrified that it took me this long to get around to watching Coco. I just thank Netflix for having this movie on their streaming service. This movie was just so cute. I loved the inclusion of the Latinx culture (I want to say this movie takes place in Mexico since one of the songs in from the Mexican Institute of Sound, but I’m not sure). It was just very well integrated. Yes, the movie was kinda predictable, but I’m just saying that as someone who watched too many children’s movies while not being a child. I was still crying towards the end. All of the main characters are enjoyable and you just want to hug them…well most of them. The character development was substantially by not even just the main character. The music was beautiful and catchy. I will definitely watch this movie again when I have the itch for a Disney-Pixar night.

Religious History Reimagined Pt 1

With more books being written in this series, I felt that it was time to get back into the Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown. I started to adventure with the first book Angels and Demons. Yes, this is the first book and not The Da Vinci Code like so many people think. To start, I would like to say that I will be using the word mythos when describing aspects of this series. The word “mythos,” according to Merriam-Webster, is a pattern of beliefs expressing often symbolically the characteristic or prevalent attitudes in a group or culture. By using this word, I am not trying to express my own opinions of the religions and cultures expressed in these novels. If there is a better word that could be used, feel free to say so. I will take it into consideration. But, on with the review…

The first thing I have to say is how well researched this series is. I had the privilege to read the illustrated edition. It was amazing to see pictures of all of the places explored in the novel. This novel explores the “battle” between science and religion. It is well done in a way that doesn’t choose a side. Every character has different opinions regarding the matter, and everyone respects the other’s opinions. The dialogue in this way is well written and not really a fluff piece. I also enjoyed how points of view shifted. It is not often that changes in point of view are done so seamlessly, but it was well done here. All the characters are believable and intriguing. I loved everything about this book. I personally don’t really know much about the Catholic church. After asking my best friend about it as they are Catholic, I realized that it was much more accurate than I thought. They told me that the mythos of the church as it related to the book and different things. They also explained some things that I didn’t quite get, so that was also amazing. Also, from reading the acknowledgments at the end, I realized that the author actually went to the places described in the book. If that doesn’t add to it, I don’t know what does.

Killer Roommate

Just out of college, that last thing you expect is that your new roommate kills people for a living, but that is what you get out of Assassin Roommate by Monica Gallagher. The characters balance each other well. There is not an overabundance of unnecessary characters. Everyone serves a purpose. The relationships are also written very well. There are hints of a love triangle, but it isn’t annoying as some love triangles can be. Everyone involved are adults. Yes, they do have outbursts of emotion, but it is all understandable. Also, the conflict between the different assassin networks is also interesting as you are trying to figure out what everyone wants and what their true motives are. The second season of this webcomic just wrapped up, so it is the perfect time to catch up on this amazing series. I can’t wait to find out what the author has in store next.

Rebuilding the Island

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are sure to have noticed the influx of games that revolve around complete puzzles in order to rebuild something, be it mansions or gardens. A new addition to this genre of gaming is Lost Island: Blast Adventure. I like this game because instead of a match three, is a … blow up blocks of a color. It’s the same premise, but different. From what I have seen in the game, there are lots of interesting characters and a mystery to unravel through the power of archeology. I would check it out if you can so you can have a seal. Have I told you that you get a seal friend?

My Little Vet Clinic

One of the many recent games that I have downloaded on my phone has Pet Rescue. What can I say about it other than it is super adorable? The animal and character designs are well done. The simple animations are absolutely perfect. The premise of the game is that you are running a vet clinic with different services that you can upgrade your care for animals and help out missing animals. The first part is more time management and the second is waiting for a time to expire. There are also three worlds currently available as I am writing this. I have only played in two of them. The different worlds have different services you can offer and different animals to rescue. My one complaint is that the vets don’t get different outfits for the different world. I know that it is a silly complaint, but I just think it would be really cute.
