As a lover of Disney-Pixar, I am honestly horrified that it took me this long to get around to watching Coco. I just thank Netflix for having this movie on their streaming service. This movie was just so cute. I loved the inclusion of the Latinx culture (I want to say this movie takes place in Mexico since one of the songs in from the Mexican Institute of Sound, but I’m not sure). It was just very well integrated. Yes, the movie was kinda predictable, but I’m just saying that as someone who watched too many children’s movies while not being a child. I was still crying towards the end. All of the main characters are enjoyable and you just want to hug them…well most of them. The character development was substantially by not even just the main character. The music was beautiful and catchy. I will definitely watch this movie again when I have the itch for a Disney-Pixar night.

Religious History Reimagined Pt 1
With more books being written in this series, I felt that it was time to get back into the Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown. I started to adventure with the first book Angels and Demons. Yes, this is the first book and not The Da Vinci Code like so many people think. To start, I would like to say that I will be using the word mythos when describing aspects of this series. The word “mythos,” according to Merriam-Webster, is a pattern of beliefs expressing often symbolically the characteristic or prevalent attitudes in a group or culture. By using this word, I am not trying to express my own opinions of the religions and cultures expressed in these novels. If there is a better word that could be used, feel free to say so. I will take it into consideration. But, on with the review…
The first thing I have to say is how well researched this series is. I had the privilege to read the illustrated edition. It was amazing to see pictures of all of the places explored in the novel. This novel explores the “battle” between science and religion. It is well done in a way that doesn’t choose a side. Every character has different opinions regarding the matter, and everyone respects the other’s opinions. The dialogue in this way is well written and not really a fluff piece. I also enjoyed how points of view shifted. It is not often that changes in point of view are done so seamlessly, but it was well done here. All the characters are believable and intriguing. I loved everything about this book. I personally don’t really know much about the Catholic church. After asking my best friend about it as they are Catholic, I realized that it was much more accurate than I thought. They told me that the mythos of the church as it related to the book and different things. They also explained some things that I didn’t quite get, so that was also amazing. Also, from reading the acknowledgments at the end, I realized that the author actually went to the places described in the book. If that doesn’t add to it, I don’t know what does.
Killer Roommate
Just out of college, that last thing you expect is that your new roommate kills people for a living, but that is what you get out of Assassin Roommate by Monica Gallagher. The characters balance each other well. There is not an overabundance of unnecessary characters. Everyone serves a purpose. The relationships are also written very well. There are hints of a love triangle, but it isn’t annoying as some love triangles can be. Everyone involved are adults. Yes, they do have outbursts of emotion, but it is all understandable. Also, the conflict between the different assassin networks is also interesting as you are trying to figure out what everyone wants and what their true motives are. The second season of this webcomic just wrapped up, so it is the perfect time to catch up on this amazing series. I can’t wait to find out what the author has in store next.
Rebuilding the Island
Unless you have been living under a rock, you are sure to have noticed the influx of games that revolve around complete puzzles in order to rebuild something, be it mansions or gardens. A new addition to this genre of gaming is Lost Island: Blast Adventure. I like this game because instead of a match three, is a … blow up blocks of a color. It’s the same premise, but different. From what I have seen in the game, there are lots of interesting characters and a mystery to unravel through the power of archeology. I would check it out if you can so you can have a seal. Have I told you that you get a seal friend?
My Little Vet Clinic
One of the many recent games that I have downloaded on my phone has Pet Rescue. What can I say about it other than it is super adorable? The animal and character designs are well done. The simple animations are absolutely perfect. The premise of the game is that you are running a vet clinic with different services that you can upgrade your care for animals and help out missing animals. The first part is more time management and the second is waiting for a time to expire. There are also three worlds currently available as I am writing this. I have only played in two of them. The different worlds have different services you can offer and different animals to rescue. My one complaint is that the vets don’t get different outfits for the different world. I know that it is a silly complaint, but I just think it would be really cute.

Gaming for the Planet
To be clear, I am considering JouleBug a game because that is what it is called in the GooglePlay store. It’s more of a competition so close enough. What I love about this “game” is that you work with other people to save the planet. There are a variety of tasks you can “Buzz” to tell the world that you did an action to help the environment. There are also competitions every once in a while to show off you world-saving actions to everyone involved. My one problem is that it’s so hard to remember to buzz in, and that is of no fault of the app. At this point, I just do things and realize that hours later I could have buzzed something. Also, I’m a vegetarian, and there is an action that says go a day without meat, so I literally could get that one every day if I were to remember. But I do think this is a fun app to use if you wanted to compete with your friends over something.

The Super Family is Back
Let me begin this post by saying that I have been waiting for this movie for fourteen years. I wasn’t very hype for it from the trailers, but the Incredibles 2 movie was exactly what I wanted. It fits in perfectly from the end of the last movie, and it was very seemless. The character’s hadn’t changed too much but there was still area’s of growth. I just absolutely loved Bob’s (the dad’s) internal conflict. It was so well done. Also, the villian made slightly more sense than the original did, but the justaposition was intriguing. I also got a very X-men vibe from the movie. If you replace “supers” with “mutants,” the message of the movies are very similar, but you just can’t hate a family superhero movie. If they were to make another movie, not saying they should, but I would like to see older Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack taking on a world that is more accepting of “supers” to see what new problems emerge in their society. I just personally think that that would be really interesting to see.
Holidays in July (2018 Calendar)
It’s been a really long time since I’ve done one of these, and I really want to get back to them. July is the National Blueberry Month, Ice Cream Month and a month that you shouldn’t get married in apparently. Also, the second week of the month is Nude Recreation Week, if you are interested in that type of thing.

To Explain the Weird
When something weird happens, everyone needs a best fitting explanation to go along with it. It’s even better when it is in the form of a movie. This would be The Disaster Artist. This is the movie that explains how the movie The Room was made. I watched this directly after watching The Room, and feel that this is totally necessary to get the most enjoyment from the film. It goes through every single tiny detail that you have when watching the original movie. Why is that line of dialogue needed? What’s with all the football throwing? Everything is brought up that you wanted a reasonable answer for. It doesn’t answer the vaguest question of who is this guy, but do you really want the answer to that? I don’t.
The Best of Trash
Recently, after wanting to see this movie for a couple of years now, I finally got around to watching The Room, a now cult classic. This movie is kinda awful in the best ways possible. I was laughing through the entire thing, cringing through all of the sex scenes and waiting for there to be plot again. If you are a movie snob, just know that this is not for you. This is not a movie to be taken seriously. Would I watch this again? Most definitely. I now need to make an effort to watch this movie every so often. It’s going to be my new guilty pleasure, and there will be no shame from anyone. This might be one of my new favorite movies.
